Clondalkin Women Maintain Momentum

Article by Eugene Noble In their first home match of this season and their second of this Leinster League campaign, the Clondalkin Womens Rugby team continued on their winning ways. Played on a glorious October afternoon, the Clondalkin Women met with a very tough and well drilled Edenderry side who did not give any impression of this being their first season together. Clondalkin were first to put their names on the scoreboard with a try by wing Niamh Condron after eleven minutes and a further try by centre Sara Phelen soon after only to find themselves pegged back by Edenderry with a try of their own. This led to the home side upping the gears and with another try from Sara Phelan followed by a try from scrum half Shona Byrne together with two conversions by outhalf Michelle Rowan, Clondalkin found themselves with a deserved half-time lead of 24 points to 5.

The second half followed the pattern of the first with the opposition making it difficult for Clondalkin with every play, and with a number of injuries taking their toll, the entire squad made huge contributions to the overall team effort. Three suberb long range tries by centre Therese Grogan together with two conversions from Michelle Rowan and a conversion from Emma McKeever against a single try for Edenderry saw Clondalkin safely over the winning line with a final score of 45 points to 10.

Clondalkin's next match is at home against Mullingar RFC on Sunday October 10 with a 1 o'clock kick off. Your support on the side line will be much appreciated.
