Bective Rangers (6) vs Clondalkin 3rds (60)Article by Jonny Stapleton
The summer music festival season may still be a number of months away but Clondalkin third team got in the fiesta mood a little early by producing what has most aptly described as a “festival” of rugby in Donnybrook last Saturday.
The famous D4 stadium, the home of Leinster Rugby, has hosted teams from over the world and witnessed some magnificent performances and clashes as a result.
Very few of the hundreds of thousands of games witnessed by the stadium however, could have matched Clondalkin’s display in terms the fluidity, quality and sheer entertainment value.
Clondalkin were nothing short of sensational en route to an 11 try demolition of Bective thanks to a vintage performance from some of the clubs vintage players.
After topping their pool in the J4 league the Gordon Park ‘Saturday First’ now find themselves in the Quarter finals of the Winters Cup and in with a real shout of silverware in what is effectively their first full season.
A doubles from Karl Horan, Peter ‘big hits’ Fitz and Paddy Bourke-who is still bemoaning two missed opportunities to register his first ever rugby hat trick- as well as scores from Jeff Cribbon, Ken McMahon, Paul 'Puff the Magic Dragon' Fitzgerald and Eamonn Stapleton saw the Clon emerge 60-6 victors.
