Jebb Kick-starts Clon
Chris Jebb literally kicked Clondalkin to second in Leinster League Division 2 table with another deadly dead ball display away to Gorey last Sunday. Jebb register all of Clondalkin’s 21 points as the Gordon Park side notched a fourth successive victory and fittingly exercised their Gorey demons on Halloween. A nightmare display in the corresponding fixture last term denied Clon a second place finish and subsequently a promotion playoff place. However the dejection that was on display last season was replaced by joy as Clondalkin registered a comfortable win this time round. Clondalkin are now just one point off league leaders Longford, who they have yet to face, and are gearing themselves for a shot at the Division 2 title. And former AIL Trinity player Jebb, who has registered all but 10 of Clon’s points in the last four games, will certainly play a vital role in that championship chase. Meanwhile the Clondalkin second string produced another frustratingly average display but more importantly registered yet another league victory in the same venue on Sunday. The unbeaten Clon outfit are now seven points clear at the top of the table and statistic made more inpressive by the fact they have yet consult their best form. Clon dominated the early exchanges and their attack minded approach initially screamed bonus point. By half time Carl ‘Crazy Legs’ Horan registered his fourth try in two games with captain Ali Collier also crossing the white wash to give the visitors a comfortable half time lead. Soon after the half time break Finbar the old pillar of the former winning seconds and first teams entered the frame, who gave a outstanding game from the second he stood on the pitch. This however has caused a rumble in the packs as the old Lion has now put pressure on first team lock Rob Dever for his position at firsts. But with all the wealth of experience in the pack Mr Hyde rather than Dr Jekyll was on display after the turn as the Gordon Park sides indiscipline came back to haunt them. Regular rugby misdemeanours meant Clon hadn’t got the full compliment for the majority of the second half. That aligned with some poor execution prevented Collier’s charges from hitting the bonus point they targeted at the break. Maurice Featherstone, who as per usual was impressively combative throughout, saw red for two yellow card offences whilst his partner in crime James Kenny was binned for a high tackle. Indeed four scrums against the head by hooker Ollie Megraw, some solid tackling from Ken McMahon, some illusive Horan running and two Tyndall penalties were all Clon had to shout about after the break. Elsewhere a well worked Stephen Kenny try secured Clondalkin fourth team’s first victory of the season in Gordon Park last Saturday. Kenny took advantage of some creative John Walsh play to register his second of the season and inflict defeat on Clontarf in the process. Wicklow county player Ciaran Jones was also on the score sheet sending an oval shaped ball over the bar in the 8-5 home win. Debutant Shane Mahon and centres Jason Radcliffe and Stephen Coyle Rowan were all impressive as the fourth string won despite being below par in the second half.Added by admin November 1, 2010 (8:52PM)
