U11s make it two in a row

“On Sunday morning in Corcagh Park the quickly improving Clondalkin U11s enjoyed their 2nd win in a row defeating Terenure 7 tries to nil in a very good all round team performance.....

Clondalkin started the 1st half very well which resulted in 4 unanswered tries, 2 apiece for Eoin Ennis and Ross. However a big feature of the game at this point was Clons ability to support the ball in possession as most of the tries were the result of numerous passes & phases, where Clon were the stronger & more committed at the ruck area. Added to this was some excellent tackling from Ross, Nathan Hayes, Evan (captain for the day), Darren, & some really big hits from the committed Craig and the returning duo Scott & Calvin.

Clon started the 2nd half a little slower and didn’t threaten as often for the first 15 minutes of this half as Terenure started to retain more and more of the ball, while Clon reverted to playing more as individuals rather than as a team. What was amazing was that the best Terenure runner & spinner out of the tackles is actually clinically blind (zero peripheral vision ala Jason Smyth the Irish Paralympic gold medal winner) but a really gutsy pacey wee player; surely this is what sport is all about.

While with ball Clon were lax in this period, encouragingly the tackles continued to go in and the Clon line was never seriously threatened with Stephen , Jonathan (JJ)& Ryan Collins coming more into the game. A bit of a pep talk seemed to reawaken Clon for the last 5 minutes and following a big hit by Darragh on the right, the ball was moved along the line to Keith Condell who made good ground up the left before being grounded. The ball was recycled well however & transferred back out to the right where Evan finished off in the corner for possibly this groups best ever team try. With that the strong running Craig got the try his efforts over the whole game deserved & right at the whistle the Calvin also got in after a strong pacey weaving run.

All in all this was a very good performance, especially as there were 5 different try scorers (and were so nearly some more) and even more importantly the opposition got zero for the 2nd game in a row. Well done to a smashing TEAM effort, which really made the coaches more proud in Corcagh Park on Sunday morning than they were in Croke Park on Saturday evening!!”
