Article by Jonny Stapleton

Clondalkin Rugby Club are on the look out for women as they attempt to launch the clubs first ever women’s rugby team.

After successfully fielding a third team and sides at all underage levels last term the club look to expand its playing population further and this week launched a women’s rugby side.

Rugby has captured the attention of the nation in recent years and Clon have seen the benefits. Interest in the club has coincided with the rise in rugby’s popularity and the Gordon Park outfit has now been asked to field a side for the fairer sex, and is on the look out for players.

“We have decided to field a women’s team next year. We had a few inquiries recently and have some members and supporters who play for other women’s teams but wanted to play for their local side. We are now officially on the look out for players. Players of all abilities are welcome,” Club Secretary Conor Steed explained.

“We are always complimented on the atmosphere within the club, and have seen rise in interest in recent years and this will just add to that. We are delighted to be adding a women’s team and the reaction we have got has been great so far from everyone in the club. But again we are looking for more players. Anyone interested will be made more than welcome,” he concluded.
