Article by Jonny Stapleton The rugby evolution process generally see’s a progression from player to captain and from captain to coach. Clondalkin thirds however have muddled up that natural flow and rugby order. Third team captain Simon Cumminsky last week lead a side that possessed ten players he formerly coached in friendly action last weekend. Cumminsky along with now third team coach Philly Byrne are getting to see the benefits of the hard work they put in at underage level up close and personal, as the team they coached from under-14’s begin their senior careers under their tutelage. Cumminsky in particular is benefiting from the skills he thought the youngster as he ploys his trade in a back row with two of his most gifted graduates. And the big number 8 couldn’t be happier. “It is great to be captain of a Clondalkin Rugby team and it is great to see the younger lads come through and play so well. When myself and Phil were coaching five years ago we knew these players would benefit the senior set up, but we didn’t know we would be involved when they played together. I am delighted to be working with them and its great to see them play as a unit again. Hopefully they will continue to progress because they have the ability to play for our first team.”
