Rachel continues to make history

Clondalkin's Rachel Vickers has been selected in the Leinster Squad to face Connacht in thier mouthwatering interprovincial clash in the Sportsground, Galway this Saturday.

The Women's team player of the year missed last weekends victory over Ulster as a result of work commitments but is one of only two changes the the Blue Lion's management team deemed nesceassary after last week's one sided five-try 30-3 win. The former England International, who remains the only every Clondalkin player to play senior rugby for the province whilst still sporting the navy and yellow of the Gordon Park side each week, wasn't named in the starting 15, but is sure to make an impact of the bench.

"Rachel is world class and everyone in Clondalkin Rugby club is massively proud of her," Club Captain Dan Fitzpatrick said. "She brings honour on the club on a regular basis. Women's rugby in Clondalkin is only in its second year, but already the team has been promoted up a league and a women's youth structure has been put in place. I know the women's team are very proud of Rachel but she is a player every player of Clondalkin rugby looks up to."

Leinster Women’s Coach Dan van Zyl had this to say about the game “We were pleased with the performance last week, but we’re expecting another physical battle in Galway on Saturday. We had nine new caps last week and we were pleased with their composure and hope that they will step up again this week. “Connacht are a good side and had a good performance against Munster, so we know that we’ll have to put in another strong effort against them.”
