Married versus Singles Report
Click on continue reading. The married versus singles game took place last Sunday and was one of the more enjoyable games held in the club in recent years. As is the case with this club there is a severe lack of married lads so a few players needed to be seconded to the married team before kick off. The rules for selecting these lads was quiet simple and as Dan Fitzpatrick says, Right, if you have a bird for more than a year, then you married and if your not yet divorced then your still married. That meant that the married team was bolstered by Dan Fitz, Collie, Kev Kelly, Bruiser and the Straightlacket McKenna (who was voted as most likely to be married by this time next year). The game was played at the type of pace that a match two days after Christmas is typically played at and thats slow. This played into the hands of speedster Carl Horan who stayed off the drink for Christmas in prep for this game and allowed him the chance to bag a couple of tries. This is the reason most people voted him most likely to still be single this time next year. Horan had been trying to impress coaches ahead of the seconds cup final and forgot about the spirit of the day. The game lacked any sort of structure or skill but that was not the point of the day and it eventually spun into chaos with Frank Lynam replacing water bottles with whiskey bottles at half time. The introduction of alcohol meant it was difficult to keep scores but according the oldest player on the pitch and therefore most trustworthy, CC, it was a 66 all draw.
One notable thing that happened on the day was Dan 'Dropper 2' Fitzpatrick tried to introduce his self given nickname 'Big Dog'. As i'm sure Dan is aware only club legends like Brendanto, Bonesaw, Horse and Dragon have succeeded in giving themselves nicknames in the past. That said they have never been as brazen as to try robbing a nickname from somebody most notably a legend in his own right Conor 'Big Dog' Maloney. For this reason we will be having a special poll in the new year to see who is the real BigDog the winner of which makes it into the ultimate nicknames final.
