Longford 1st (18) vs Clondalkin 1st (9)

Clondalkins firsts got off to a loosing start in this year's Leinster League with an 18-9 loss away to Longford at the weekend.

Longford scored the first on their tries in the 15th minute, when they went over in the corner. This try was converted and Longford went into half-time with a 10-6 lead.

Longford added to their lead in the 60th minute with a penalty but that was soon cancelled out with a Chris Jebb drop goal.

The crucial score game minutes later when Longford went over for their second try. From a line-out, Longford secured possession and managed to drive over the line. Mystery surrounds how the Longford pack managed to ground the ball but Clondalkin can blame nobody but themselves for this loss as they lacked composure throughout the game. In their defense a large amount of luck went against them with a number of 50/50 calls going the way of the home team that ordinarily would have went Clons way.

On the positive side talismatic back row come second row Sean Brennan is due back from Thailand this week and its hoped he will be available for selection come the weekend. Another positive from the game was the impact of substitute Alaric Collier who deputised for the injured Phily Byrne.
