Ladies Storm Kinsale
Well the ladies team made their first ever tour down to Kinsale the May Bank Holiday weekend and what a weekend it was. 16 ladies in Pink made their way down to the quaint little town for a quiet, sociable weekend In keeping with the spirit of the weekend there were only a few beers and vodkas had the first night so everyone would be fresh as a daisy for the games on Saturday and that was about as sensible as the team was for the weekend!br /> Saturday was filled with anticipation, rain and plenty of eye candy. The girls had breakfast, warmed up and played their first match against Here for Beer. The girls obviously looked hot in their kit as the heavens felt the need to open and pour down with torrential rain for the duration of their match to cool them down. Despite the hurricane like weather there were some fantastic line outs by Rachel, great tackles from Floodzer and Murph and excellent cheerleading from the side from little Floodzer and Ms Berry. We did lose Nips in the first few minutes due to a nasty leg stamping incident. The match finished 10-12 to Here for Beer with Clonnettes just being pipped at the post in the last minute. After a quick break and some time to watch some of the mens team play, the girls played their second match against Tralee Cubs. Yet again the rain and hailstones decided to bombard the girls as they played, but they didn’t let this dampen their spirits. Although some were more spirited than others when it came to some imaginative ‘tackling’. We know where Jamie Heaslip got the idea to use his knee – he probably saw the video footage from our own Cliona ‘Heaslip’ O’Keefe when in one particular ruck she managed an aerobic repeater knee into one of the Cubs ribcage – purely accidental of course, must have been the rain making her slip. After the match was over to a 0-15 defeat, the girls decided it was time to shower, get warm and party!!And so began the tent chaos. Due to tour rules not all can be revealed about the w/end but lets just say Big Brother had some keen interrogation to do at night time. Princess Fiona was kidnapped out of the tent by Shrek (note not one of her fellow team mates came to the rescue), everyone was obsessed by the Peg and the Peg got everyone drunk, beer was flowing, the sunglasses appeared, the rain stopped, the DJ got everyone dancing and by the time it was time to close up the tent, it was dancing and drinking time in town.
Sunday brought about yet more rain but the girls were full of get go, go to drink and go to play. The guys came to support the girls (thanks guys) and despite the girls being placed in the more difficult senior cup instead of the developmental plate, they played a stormer against Average Joes. T’was during this match that our beloved Anna Boyle defined the term BOOM with a spectacular double take down, the Joe’s never knew what hit them as she tackled two of them to the ground with a BOOM as they hit!! The bulmers light consumed in the two hours waiting to play obviously spurred on our Guch as she made her first ever tackl against a Joe who was, lets say slightly more than average and we burst with pride as she managed to get her to the ground. Laura Murphy had to come off with a minor injury to her head, our resident paramedic Mr Donnelly was professional as always with his killer medical skills – Lie Down and Take Your Top Off – being his medical opening line, what would we have done without him?
Despite losing this match, the weather and the bumps and bruises a great time was had by all and left us free to watch the rugby (i.e. the guys playing with their tops off) and booze our way through the rest of the w/end.
Another tent chaos then home to change for our fancy dress night on the town. We were the hit of the town with our super heroes, our fix it super Mario brothers versus the cow girl and if we got lost and needed to ring a taxi, our 11850s were there to step in. Scully had to get up at 6:30am to fly back up to Dublin to go straight to work so you can imagine how safe the people of south Dublin were that day!!
A big thank you to the club for sponsoring the ladies and to the lads for supporting us. Also to all the ladies team who made a great effort for the w/end both in playing and having fun, we all look foeward to doing it again BOOM style next year.
