Jonny Hips 4th team Call to Arms

New fourth team captain Jonny ‘The Hips’ Stapleton has called on the Clondalkin support to turn out in force this coming Saturday to witness yet another historic day for the club.

Clon have been breaking personal records with increasing regularity over the last two seasons breaking new ground with the clubs first women’s team, a full quota of youth teams and entering a third senior side in competitive league action for the first time in 20 years.

They look set to set another PB this weekend when a Clondalkin fourth team take to the field against Emerald Warriors in the J5 league in Gordon Park on Saturday afternoon.

There certainly isn’t any recessionary times in terms of playing numbers in Clondalkin as the amount of player available for selection increases with the same regularity as the dole que.

This weekend is the first time in Clon’s history that four adult teams will compete competitively in the same weekend and Stapleton hopes the occasion will be marked with a big turn out.

“It is a great weekend for the club. The atmosphere around the place is great at the moment and the number of people training is brilliant. Being able to field a fourth team is a great feat and is a testament to all the hard work done at committee level and by the coaching staff. It’s a huge honor for me to captain any side in the club and I am confident we will do the club proud. Hopefully we will get a big crowd out Saturday to cheer us on,” Stapleton explained before extending a welcome to all players.

“Hopefully this team might be able to entice a few old names back to the club and help blood some of the young and new talent coming trough. It will also be a platform, just as the thirds is, for those who can not commit to Sunday rugby to continue to play and stay involved at the club. My personal dream is to have one of Clons greatest players Pat Houghton don the jersey again at some stage this year. But I would like to extend a welcome to any players new or old to come and play with us.”
