Final Fantasy Four
Article by Jonny StapletonClondalkin rugby clubs recording breaking season could have a fantasy finale after the club qualified for an unprecedented and fantastic four senior finals.
Victories for the Gordon Park side’s fourth and firsts team last week ensured Clon will have four senior teams competing for cup glory in the same season for the first time in the clubs history.
It’s a fitting and brilliant end to a season packed with Clondalkin personal bests, and one which could only be topped by a record breaking cup medal haul.
If the finals produce four wins and the first, seconds, thirds and fourths win their respective Towns Plate, Lawlor Cup, Scully Cup and Speirs Cup deciders it would mean medals for the entire senior male set up.
“It is another great achievement for the Club. We have taken great pride in fielding four teams this year and the amount of work been put in at committee and coaching level has been immense. We have fielded four teams on a regular basis for the first time ever and they have all be competitive. Not only has each team made a final but three of the teams finished in the top three of their respective leagues. Praise has to go to John Stapleton, Eamon Stapleton and Aiden Delamere for their work with the thirds and fourths whilst the first and seconds owe a debt of gratitude to Kenny O’Brien, Robert Hayes and Paul Haycock. The plan now is to go and win the cups and translate that success into the leagues next year,” Club captain Dan Fitzpatrick explained.
