End of season address from Catherine Keane
Click on continue reading. As our season is coming to an end, I thought it only fitting to address my fellow club members:
I would like to begin by saying what an honour and a pleasure it has been for me to captain Clondalkins first ever womens team this year. The idea of a womens team in Clondalkin grew and gained momentum when Sandra Flood and I got fed up watching the men playing rugby. We went to the committee and asked for their backing and approval. They enthuasically agreed. All club members and everyone involved with the club have been so helpful and encouraging. It means alot to us, to know, that you are all supporting us and helping us out, I cannot state this enough.
A huge thank you must be given to Mr Eugene Noble, Mr Kieran Phelan and Mr Brian Berry. Eugene took on the managerial position splendidly, head of communication, Kieran was out in all types of weather and Brian loved to make us sprint and took on the role of coach excellently. Kieran doubled up as manager, selector and coach, we really appreciate all your hard work, dedication and belief in us. Thank you guys. Mr Mark Molloy, Mr Marty O'Brien and Mr Ciaran Cullen have been hugely involved with our team also this year, and we are very grateful for all your help, encouragement and advice.
All in all we fulfilled 13 match fixtures this year, not bad going, our main challenge was fielding. But its onwards and upwards for next year, we now have the foundations laid for a good, solid team. Rachel Vickers represented us on the Leinster scene, we are very proud of her and delighted to have such a talented and experienced player among us. Well done Rachel.
I would like to say a huge thank you to our vice captain, Sandra Flood. Sandra has been an excellent support to me this year, she is always ready to do whatever is needed, both on and off the pitch. She is dedicated and committed to this team, thanks for all your hard work this year Sandra. It was and is much appreciated.
We suffered some very bad injuries, two in particular, but both girls, Linda Scully and Niamh O'Neill, are on the mend and making a good recovery. Linda Scully has been hugely involved in an organisational role within the club since she broke her ankle. I would like to thank her for all her hard work and for organising our trip to Kinsale. It was spectacular. You have been invaluable to us this year, as a medic at matches and as a social committee member.
A big thank you to all at Williaam Cox, our new sponsors, we are delighted and grateful for your involvement and sponsorship. Victoria Byrne organised this sponsorship for us and we are very thankful for your help Victoria. Mr Pat Cagney and Mr Terry Woodhead have been instrumental in our successful set up and development. It has been a pleasure working with you this year and thank you both, for all you have done for our team. It has been a tremendous year for our club.
Finally I would like to thank the girls, our team members, thank you for your time, dedication, commitment and friendship this past season, it has been a pleasure getting to know you all and long may it continue, you represented your club very well and we had some great games. Enjoy the summer break, pre season will be here before we know it. It has been an exceptional year for our club, I speak on behalf of the womens team when I congratulate you all, from our minis teams to our silverware winners. WELL DONE. Only one more thing left to say, I would like to wish our in coming captain the very best of luck for next season, you have my full support and commitment. Wishing everyone a great end of season day and summer.
