Dunne to sign for Clondalkin

Article by Jonny Stapleton

Bernard Dunne has been urged to join his local rugby club, Clondalkin RFC by the management of the man all out take his WBC Super Bantamweight World Title, Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym.

Dunne will take on the pint sized Thai this coming Sunday and his management claim the only way the challenger will be stopped is if he is rugby tackled to the ground.

The man known in Thailand as 'The Tank' plans to bulldoze his way to victory and his team believe Dunne would have to employ the low and hard rugby mantra to send him to the canvas.

Speaking from his the famous Galaxy Boxing Gym in Thailand Poonsawats promoter Terry Laosuwanwathas explained, " We don't know too much about rugby over here, but we do see some of it on TV and the way they stop their opponents is the only way I think Bernard Dunne will put Poonsawat on his back. Dunne is a great fighter and World Champion so we respect him but we are confident Poonsawat will win. If he wants to win it might be a good idea for Bernard Dunne to join his nearest rugby team!"

Clondalkin club captain Dan Fitzpatrick was quick to extend a welcome to the Neilstown native but is confident Dunne won't need any specialist rugby training to side step his latest opponent.

"As a sports team in Clondalkin we are very proud of Bernard Dunne. Clondalkin has two of Irelands greatest ever boxers in Dunne a World Champion and Kenny Egan an Olympic Silver medalist. We are very proud of them both in the area and in this club. Both are more than welcome here any time and we would love it if either took in a Clondalkin game. We hope the people off Clondalkin can be as proud of us as they are of the local boxing stars. We believe we represent the area very well when we travel and we believe we provide a good sporting service to the local area. We wish Poonsawat all the best in the fight and his career and are delighted he mentioned us. But to be honest we are proud Clondalkiners and will be cheering for Dunne. I am no expert but i think Dunne won't need any advice from our coaching staff before Saturdays fight and he is more than welcome to have a celebratory drink Clondalkin Rugby Club."
