Clon go for a spin

Article by Jonny Stapleton

Players from Clondalkin Rugby Club can be found spinning round, right round, on Friday nights. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for the club coaching staff and supporters the spinning doesn’t take place on the dance floor but in City West Gym. The Clondalkin playing staff have been subject to a gruelling and professionally run fitness regime, courtesy of City West Health and Leisure Centre and Dave Behan in particular, over the summer. After initially undergoing a day long fitness test in the popular hotel spot Clon’s players were given professional and fitness dietary advice, which Captain Dan Fitzpatrick has enforced during pre season training. The players also benefit from a Friday night work out away from the bar which includes gruelling spinning classes and some weight work. The Friday Fitiness Session does induce some groans but Captain Fitzpatrick says the extra effort is well worth it and claims the benefits are there to be seen already.

“I would like to thanks City West and Dave in particular. City West give us professional training and allow us to use the facilities and we can not thank them enough. The players are the fittest they have ever been and know how to take care of themselves better. A lot of that is down to the City West staff. Some of the lads bemoan the extra work out but it will be worth it in the long run if we get promoted. Their wives and girlfriends don’t seem to mind them doing a bit of gym work either!”
