Maloneys Call to Arms

Clondalkin Club Captain, Conor Maloney has issued a call to arms to all club members asking everyone to do their bit to ensure the club maintain there Division 2 status.

The Gordon Park residents are currently just two places above the relegation zone with just two league games remaining of their inaugural Division 2 season.

And in order to ensure they don’t drop down to the bottom tier Maloney has asked all involved to play there part in what could be a defining two weeks in the Club’s history.

“Staying in Division 2 is very important and we have to work hard over the next few weeks,” he told www.clondalkinrugby.com.

“We face two very tough games against Rathdrum and Clane. To beat those teams we have to play to the best of our ability and it certainly isn’t an easy task. We really need to focus and work hard in every training session over the next week and half,” he added before revealing it’s not just the first 15 that can help Clon guarantee safety.

”Tuesday was a great session we had numbers up and there was great intensity. We need to maintain that. More numbers means increased competition and it pushes those who have been starting to work harder. It also means for a very competitive and hence beneficial session. Hard sessions like that can only help us. We have to understand that staying in this league is not just about the current bunch of players it is about the future. We have to give the youth players something to aspire too. Plus we have to ensure we can provide the quality young players coming through a stage worthy of the talents,” Maloney continued.

The young prop, who has been blighted by injury this year, also called on non playing members to do their bit and turn out in force to support the players as they attempt to ensure Division 2 rugby in Gordon Park next term.

“We have had good crowds at most of our games this year and have always had good support regardless of were we played or in what conditions. But I would still ask all support to come out in force for the next two games. Again they are two very tough and important games and we will take any advantage we can.”
